SNAP, DOUBLE UP FOOD BUCKS & WIC

The Golden Farmers Market welcomes SNAP, Double Up Food Bucks and WIC to help build food security in the Golden community.

Current economic conditions have resulted in a record number of Colorado families living in poverty, experiencing hunger and seeking public assistance—many for the first time. SNAP provides the first line of defense against hunger in our communities, serving as a safety-net, public health program. It enables eligible households to pay for groceries, literally putting food on the table for more than 46 million Americans.

The Double Up Food Bucks program doubles the value of federal nutrition (SNAP or food stamps) benefits spent at participating markets and food retail stores, helping people bring home more healthy fruits and vegetables while supporting local farmers. The wins are three-fold: more families have access to fruits and vegetables, local farmers gain new customers, and more food dollars stay in the local economy.

WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children.  It offers resources, knowledge and tools to help support families.  Specifically, WIC’s goal is to help keep pregnant and breastfeeding women and children younger than age 5 healthy.

Just visit our SNAP/Double Up Food Bucks Info Booth on the north side of the market, and our community food advocate will guide through receiving your Double Up Food Bucks.
